MC Lyte: Who's responsibility do you feel that is it?
It's the woman's responsibility.. point blank. If we instill in her mind that this image isn't positive towards girls younger than her, she'll stop what she's doing. Regardless of the rapper and shit, she gon do wdf she want. There will still be a line of girls outside a video shoot ready to do whatever it takes. It's nobody's fault but her. Nobody forced her to do shit, she knew wdf she was doing.. she knew how young girls are responding to it.. she sees it herself.. bitch ain't stupid. She just don't care. She really out to get that money.
I just think we need more female directors, artists and shit because the game will change. No female is gonna direct a movie or video where the girl is half naked or shaking her ass. She gon be like, nahh sweetie, get up outta here with that. She's gonna want a classy chick to come and do it. If we choose to have like pretty girls with cute, classy outfits with a swagger and a flow, all the lil girls are gonna be like I wanna be like her! Girls are easily swayed, they go off what they see. She's so pretty, she's got everything that you need to have.
On the other hand, you got a girl with a fat ass that can shake it. And it's like show me something I aint see before. Like that shit is so typical now a days and repetitive, it gets annoying. Theres gonna be a time when that shit is OLD as fuck! Who can't do that? The industry needs to make it a little bit more difficult for these "video hoes."
Angel (The Video Vixen from Kanye West's "Good Life" video?) said she was only a video "model" so she could get into the industry. She basically saying she only did what she did in all those videos to move on to what she really wants to do which is acting, modeling or whatever. But she took the easy way out, she copped out! Instead of striving for her dreams like with hard work and real talent, she decided to do the easiest thing she could with what she got. She didn't wanna be like Jada Pinkett Smith or Vivica A. Fox or Gabrielle Union, actresses with real talent that didn't cop out in a video just so they could act. They went to the fucking casting calls, took getting turned down over and over again, and strived for what they wanted the hard way. I think it's weak of Angel to say she does videos so she can get into the industry and act. We always gonna think of you as the video ho. You could go act in a movie and do this and that, but in the back of everybody mind it's gonna be like, I remember when she was in that one video.. or that one picture she took.. she won't be taken seriously and that's what she wants. She went about it way wrong...
When girls see those videos and movies, and how people generally portray a black woman.. if she doesn't fit it, she's going to feel inadequate. Like she's not good enough, not worth it.. just feel wrong. Feeling unworthy of a man's love because you don't fit the mold is not what our culture needs. And when she doesn't feel up to par, she's gonna try and meet those standards and thats what causes her to do reckless shit. If she feels unfortunate to look the way she does, because she wasn't born with a hour glass, coke bottle figure, she's not gonna have self-esteem and that's where all the problems START.
